Who We Are
Established in 2020, we are a small group of community volunteers whose mission is to support the Rappahannock County Recreational Facility Authority with fundraising, volunteers, and other support. We envision the Rappahannock County Park as a quiet place in the county where families can come together to play, walk, and enjoy nature. We envision the county park as an example and nature preserve for native flora, fauna, and other living creatures. The Park was designated a silver level Dark Sky Park in 2019 by the International Dark-Sky Association and an Audubon Wildlife Preserve by the National Audubon Society in 2020 and a Home Grown National Park in 2021.
What We Do
The Rappahannock County Park Foundation (RCPF) is a 501(c)(3) established in 2020 to support the Rappahannock County Recreational Facilities Authority (RCRFA) to fundraise in support of it efforts to maintain and improve the Rappahannock County Park. The RCPF supports the Park’s environmental sustainability & educational efforts with monthly volunteer “work days” to remove invasive plants, plant dozens of native plants and trees, and Rush River clean up days with support of local environmental non profits. RCPF also supports making the Park accessible to everyone with 2 new accessible parking spaces and a walkway to the pavilion and a new accessible year round family restroom. The RCPF has also secured grants to repair and improve the playground areas, refurbish the tennis courts, added tennis & shuffleboard benches, a pickle ball corn hole, shuffleboard, and mini frisbee golf court. The local Scouts will be building accessible picnic tables, and steps have been rebuilt and handrails replaced.
