Sustainability Matters

Who We Are

Sustainability Matters cultivates community through conservation. We make sustainability fun, realistic, and inclusive of all. We’re a Virginia-grown grassroots nonprofit, based in the rural Northern Shenandoah Valley and Piedmont regions, and expanding to the DC suburbs. We’re also an architect of transformative, scalable projects like Making Trash Bloom, and creator of webinars with global reach. Since our founding in 2018, Sustainability Matters has organized more than 200 educational and outreach programs for over 20,000 participants. Whether you’re a sixth-generation farmer in the Piedmont, an immigrant to Northern Virginia, or a webinar guest from the other side of the world, we welcome you to our programs and to our family.

What We Do

We bring sustainability to unexpected places. Whether it’s planting native wildflower meadows at landfills through our Making Trash Bloom project, teaching novice gardeners to grow their own food, or helping farmers access funding for conservation practices, we empower individuals, families, and communities to help the environment while helping themselves.
