Who We Are

Virginia branch of a national effort to restore American chestnut to the Eastern forest.

Chestnut was once a dominant tree in Virginia.  Its return is essential for forest health, wildlife populations, and the economy of Appalachia.

What We Do

Tree breeding. We use volunteers to find and pollinate wild, surviving Amer. chestnut trees; plant and maintain breeding orchards; and coordinate member and volunteer activities.  We also do events and write articles that tell the chestnut story to the public.
