Who We Are
The Fauquier Family Cemetery Foundation, Inc. (FFCF), also referred to as "The Foundation," is
an organization comprised of your friends and neighbors who believe a burial site should be
honored and valued irrespective of location or ethnic origins. Devoted to this purpose, we are
entering our 10th year of research, documentation, preservation, and maintenance of family
cemeteries within Fauquier County, Virginia. Our volunteers assist in clearing and reclaiming
forgotten and abandoned county cemeteries. We identify and record gravesites lost over
decades, and we assist individuals all over the nation in finding their ancestors who settled,
lived, and died in Fauquier County.
The Foundation, a 501(c)(13) tax exempt corporation, is financed via donations from individuals
we assist. These funds are used to support perpetual maintenance of family cemeteries
throughout Fauquier County. However, when COVID struck in 2020, all activities came to a
staggering halt. Even gathering together to clean cemeteries was curtailed as Board members
and volunteers alike were needed to care for their family members. Our goal in 2023 is to
recover our losses and develop an even stronger volunteer network to carry The Foundation's
valuable work on to 2031 and beyond!
It is our sincere wish that YOU will join us! Your commitment and dedication to carry our work
forward will enable The Foundation to discover more cemeteries and graves waiting to be
found and preserved.
What We Do
There is a tremendous need for assistance with many projects (current, on-going, and
proposed). We are passionate about accomplishing the following--
- Helping support local community efforts in identifying their abandoned
gravesites, reclaiming them from years of neglect, and working with neighbors
to maintain gravesites annually to prevent subsequent overgrowth. - Helping property owners identify graveyards on their own property, and
assisting owners and families on best management practices for existing
graveyards. - Provide continuous updates to the County by submittal of cemetery
identification forms ensuring new developers and owners are aware of a
graveyard's existence. - Provide assistance to any organization, as we are capable, in documentation
and installation of veterans' tombstones at previously unmarked veterans'
graves. - Maintenance of The Foundation's website and digital files to support
researchers and individuals seeking ancestral gravesites in Fauquier County.
