Who We Are

The Mission of Souls In Harmony is to enhance the mental health and quality of life of others in this and other communities through music, and to inspire and nurture creativity and the opportunity for education and mentorship. We established “Souls In Harmony” in June 2015 as an outreach ministry to those suffering from dementia and Alzheimer’s, as well as youth and adults who experience special mental, physical, or financial needs.

What We Do

The free music lessons and programs we have provided to seniors in our community have resulted in their increased social interaction, self-expression, and cognitive growth. For example, our work with special needs adults in the “Visions” program led to their participation in talent shows and Christmas caroling excursions. Recently, we have begun to apply the findings of scientific research that shows the potential of music to significantly improve the lives of Alzheimer’s patients—even in the late stages of the disease. By using iPods with music individually tailored to the patient’s life experience be it favorite hymns , a wedding song or a concert they went to , we have seen several “awakenings” and amazing transformations. Families have been able to share memories and cognitive moments with their loved ones that had previously seemed impossible; the nursing staff could not believe the positive changes in patient interaction and demeanor.
