Aging Together has been honoring the positive impact of older adults for 13 years with the annual 5 Over 50 Celebration. The regional honor was created to highlight the significant contributions of older adults in each of our 5 counties.
The 5 Over 50 event underscores the fact that age doesn’t mean diminished capacity, and uproots stereotypes incorrectly assigned to older adults. In fact, through years of experience, older adults have singular wisdom and experience that positively impacts our region in many ways including:
- Hours of support to organizations through volunteerism
- Caregiving for older and younger family members
- Financial contributions supporting the community at large and causes that matter
- Job experience that is passed on through mentorship and leadership in the workplace
One person (or couple) from each county is honored (Culpeper, Fauquier, Madison, Orange & Rappahannock). Nominations are sought at large from the region by mid January and the final five are chosen by committee in late February. The 5 honorees are announced in March.
This year Aging Together will celebrate the 5 Over 50 honorees in conjunction with the Annual Meeting Banquet on September 18 in Fauquier.
