Volunteer: MUST LOVE CATS - Help Needed at our Private Cat Sanctuary/Shelter

We need dedicated and dependable volunteers to help us work with our cat rescues and to help us keep our shelter and sanctuary clean. Volunteer Interview Required The People for Pets Foundation is a "private" non profit cat rescue founded in 2008. Our facility is located on a private farm in Jeffersonton, VA - about 35 minutes from Culpeper or Warrenton. We operate a cat shelter and sanctuary for approximately 15 adult cats that range in age from 5 to 12 years of age. We "specialize" in rescuing adult cats that have been abandoned, neglected and often abused. These cats are often shy and timid and in great need of loving attention so that they can eventually find good and loving forever homes. In addition to working with our cats (playing with, brushing, helping with nail trims, ear & eye cleaning, etc.), we also need your help with cleaning their condos and living areas. This includes cleaning and disinfecting their living spaces, their litter boxes, mopping the floor, cleaning windows, windowsills, countertops and walls. Working around our cats will help you get to know them and the cats will become more used to you! ***All volunteers need to start out working with other volunteers. Eventually, if you stick with it, you'll be able to schedule your own days and hours.

Volunteer: Distributing LTV Newsletters

The Land Trust of Virginia is looking for individuals to distribute our newsletters primarily around Loudoun and Fauquier Counties, to places that you frequently visit that offer other free local papers (i.e. coffee shops, restaurants, doctors' and dentists' waiting rooms, etc.)

We produce our newsletters two times a year and would love to get them into the hands of more people than just those we mail them to. Would be fun to do with a spouse or friend --- map out a route, or carry with you to distribute during your daily activities, and help us get the word out about land conservation!

Volunteer: Join Rainbow Riding as a Volunteer Horse Leader

Rainbow Therapeutic Riding Center in Haymarket, VA, is a very special place that serves children and adults with physical, developmental, and mental health disabilities from all around northern Virginia.

Each week, approximately 70 students come to us for equine assisted activities, from Tuesday through Saturday, learning how to ride and take care of their horses.

Riders with mental health challenges develop emotional regulation and coping strategies, helping them manage anxiety and stress more effectively; riders with physical disabilities experience increased motor skills, better balance, and coordination through structured riding activities, which help foster greater independence in daily life; and all our students develop increased confidence and resilience as they bond with horses and engage in goal-oriented tasks.

The supportive environment we nurture at Rainbow encourages social interaction, reduces feelings of isolation, and benefits the wider community by fostering inclusivity and better understanding.

Our team of six PATH Intl. Certified Instructors plan and supervise each lesson, but every single session needs the help of one or more volunteers; they are the backbone of our program. Last year, our volunteers dedicated 2,000 hours of time to our equine therapy program.

Our primary volunteer need is for Horse Leaders. Their role is to tack up and prepare our horses for their lesson, lead them during it, and take care of them afterwards. Leaders should be experienced horse people who are able to read a horse’s body language, control their own energy and body language, have good communication and listening skills, and physically be able to walk and/or trot.

Students may also have one, two, or more volunteers acting as side walkers, who support them physically and emotionally dependent on their individual needs. Rainbow students form a bond with their team and it’s beneficial for them to see regular faces, week in, week out. That’s why we ask our volunteers to try to commit to a regular time slot each week, during a day and time that works for them.

We value all our volunteers, whether they come to us for a couple of hours per week, or a couple of afternoons as some do. And our volunteers reap huge rewards seeing their students undergo life changing improvements, learning more about the profound impact of equine assisted therapy, and themselves enjoying the emotional benefits of being around our calming horses.

Rainbow volunteers are hands on members of the team, and also contribute by serving on the all-volunteer board of directors, supporting fundraisers, and help out with other projects. Full training is given and they work closely with Rainbow Instructors and Volunteer Coordinator.

We have a beautiful indoor arena, outdoor arena, miles of trails, and an activity loft, allowing us to support our students whatever the weather!

Email us at volunteercoordinator@rainbowriding.org or fill in our online application here.

Volunteer: Afternoon feeding/cleaning shift

This position is perfect for someone who is quick at opening cans of cat food because the cats know what time it is, and they're waiting! We put down trays of can food, refill dry food bowls, and refresh the water bowls so the cats are ready to party all night long and make a mess for the next crew. This shift takes approximately 1-2 hours. Afternoon shifts typically start at 3:30 but can be later if that fits your schedule better. You pick the day and time to fit your schedule.

Kids are welcome to come with their adult to socialize and help feed!

We do not have a minimum requirement of hours each month, you can cover as many or as few shifts as you want! Even one shift a month makes a huge difference for our rescue.

If interested, please fill out this form: https://form.jotform.com/82781455830159

Volunteer: Hero Driver

Many Hero’s Bridge Veterans can no longer drive themselves to doctor appointments, the grocery store, run simple errands, or to see friends and/or loved ones.  And many of them have no one else to drive them. Volunteer: CASA Volunteer's Needed

CASA Children’s Intervention Services is looking for volunteers! Our volunteers are appointed by the Juvenile and Domestic Relations judges to advocate for the best interests of the child in cases of abuse or neglect.

CASA volunteers are members of the community who receive extensive education and training in order to advocate for abused and neglected children – who through no fault of their own – are thrust into juvenile and domestic relations court and often, into foster care.

Please consider giving your time to help a child in need.

The first step is to attend one of our monthly virtual information sessions to hear about the role of the advocate, the application process and the training requirements.

House Prep: Before each “Willing Warrior” family arrives, our team of 5 to 8 volunteers cleans the SOWW Warrior Retreat, a 5 bedroom, 9 bathroom home for their stay.  You are not just cleaning a house, you are cleaning a home…a weeklong sanctuary for our “Willing Warriors”, their families, and friends.  It gives them a warm and inviting place to escape from the worries and stress of recovery, and gives them a place to reconnect with their family and friends, enjoying each other’s company away from a hospital setting. House prep is a unique opportunity as we have the chance to meet our willing warrior guests as they are checking out of the retreat on House Prep day.  This is a wonderful chance to give back to your community and personally thank service members and their families for all they have sacrificed for our country. House Prep is a wonderful way to begin your involvement with the retreat and meet other amazing volunteers! This group meets every Wednesday morning (9:30AM to 12:00PM) to clean and prepare the house for our next Warrior and their family. Any amount of time you would like to volunteer is welcome.

Volunteer: Help us keep our space all spruced up!

Do you derive great satisfaction from keeping things neat and tidy?  If so, we would love to have you join our volunteer family!  Our goal is to create and maintain a warm and comfortable space for our clients at the Pregnancy Center.  With all the time we devote to serving our clients directly, we often are challenged with maintaining our space to a standard that meets our goals.  We would love the help of a volunteer who could do light cleaning in the Warrenton Pregnancy Center once a week.  If more volunteers respond, then the frequency would be even less.  This opportunity is also great for families or parent/son or daughter pair!

Volunteer: Hope for Appalachia: Comfort Blanket Ministry

A Comfort Blanket is a handmade blanket we like to give to children who have a need emotionally and physically. The kids LOVE these and call them "covers"! We also like to give special needs children these blankets as well as children going through some tough emotional situations.

The blankets are handmade and prayed over. When we give them to a child, we are giving them something covered in prayers, we hope and pray if finds them comfort in the situation they may be in. It is also something that they can call their own.

For more information about our ministry and how to make a comfort blanket, please visit our website: https://hfavateam.com/comfort-blanket-ministry

We collect these items year-round and take them on the Spring Trips. Items can be dropped off at New Salem Baptist Church in Culpeper anytime (8233 Sperryville Pike, Culpeper VA 22701). There is a deliveries door, and the items can be left in the foyer.

If you would like to mail items, you can send them to:  Hope for Appalachia, C/o Mike & Liesa Dodson, 7356 Beech Hill Lane, Boston VA 22713

Volunteer: Outreach/Back-Office Assistant (C'ville Area)

At PEC, we win by engaging with communities and empowering residents to use their voices for positive change. That means two things:   1. We regularly show up at community events and host meetings of our own. This requires the ability to take notes and a willingness to talk to people.   and   2. We do lots of data entry, data management and communications. This requires a computer and basic computer skills.   We're looking for volunteers to help with both roles (but it doesn't need to be the same person doing both).

Because the work is very focused on local issues, we need volunteers from the Charlottesville / Albemarle region.

Time Commitment: varies. Most ideal would be regular, 1-4 hours/week.
