We are looking for a few skilled crew leaders. 

Are you:

in need of construction management skills to build your resume? an experienced builder that wants to share your knowledge with others?

Leadership of volunteers on the construction site is critical to completing our home builds on budget. Crew leader volunteers will be trained to assist Construction Manager in leading and training construction volunteers as well as learning and passing on the mission of Fauquier Habitat. In addition, they will provide direct supervision of projects and ensure that goals established by the Fauquier Habitat Construction staff are achieved.  ****Applicants will be interviewed and evaluated prior to being assigned to this volunteer role. 

Reports To: 

Construction Project Manager (CPM) and Assistant Construction Superintendent 

Responsibilities: 

Maintain site safety through modeling of safety practices and guidelines as dictated by OSHA and the Fauquier Habitat Construction Staff  Teach and lead a crew of 2-10 volunteers of varying experience levels on any given component of the building process  Provide positive guidance and supportive communication to the volunteers  Assist CPM with logistics of preparation for the work day i.e, where to report, (warehouse or job), loading of materials, tools and equipment on FHFH work vehicle, and be responsible to use FHFH vehicle for the day’s work.  Assist with all aspects of the home building process, and ensure that each house is constructed according to the approved plans and all sustainable building program requirements that FHFH has registered and committed to completing for certification(s).   Assist in loading and unloading of building materials and tools on site as needed  Properly maintain all tools and equipment and immediately report any losses or damages to the CPM  Lead in organized work habits and clean-up on assigned task, Coordinate and assist with set-up for the next work day and leading clean-up of entire site at end of day 

Time Commitment: 

Commit to leading volunteer crews as available, necessary, and scheduled at least twice a month to be considered active  Arrive early to the build location to prepare for volunteers  

Training:

Volunteer members jobs are very flexible and match the skills and abilities of the volunteer with needs of the department. Volunteers write grants, file state and federal reports, participate in fundraising events such as the “Turkey Shoot”,  maintain our website and Facebook page, and perform maintenance on the trucks and buildings.  Almost anyone can volunteer without any special skies or training. But we can provide training at no cost if members want to become ambulance or fire truck drivers, EMTs, etc. Please contact us to join and help save a life in Castleton!

Castleton Volunteer Fire Company members are the backbone of our department. Volunteer members assist with the countless hours of office work and behind the scenes effort that helps fire and rescue efforts run smoothly.  Members are encouraged to participate in activities such as fundraising, special events, grant writing, paperwork, website  & Facebook development & maintenance.
