Volunteer: Spring Tree Planting in Hume

JoinThe Piedmont Environmental Council  for a volunteer tree planting in Hume on Thursday, April 9. Volunteers will be needed for one shift from 9:30am - 2pm with a lunch break included.  Together, we'll help plant 150 native trees and shrubs along a tributary to Thumb Run to enhance water quality and wildlife habitat as part of Plantings for the Piedmont!

This riparian buffer planting is made possible by a collaborative partnership withFriends of the Rappahannock,John Marshall Soil & Water Conservation, and volunteers like you!

Volunteer activities include tree planting, which involves scalping (removing grass with a hoe), digging holes, planting, and pounding wooden stakes. Due to the technical nature of this planting, experienced tree-planters are needed.  We are not able to welcome children to this particular planting, but will be sure to have all-ages and experience levels welcome at other plantings to come.

This event is rain or shine. In the event of dangerous weather, we will reschedule the day’s planting. We will provide all of the necessary tools for planting, extra water, and snacks.  Lunch will be provided.  Volunteers are encouraged to wear boots or closed-toe shoes and clothing that they’re comfortable getting dirty. Please bring bottled water, sunscreen, and bug spray if needed. The terrain is mostly flat, with a short walk to the planting site. Please arrive 5-10 minutes before your shift begins, as we will be conducting a brief training and walking to the site together!

Parking Note: There is one-way, narrow driveway available to access the site.  Parking is limited, so please carpool as feasible.

Volunteer Waiver- A waiver must be filled out prior to participation.

***Please be aware that if you sign up for a time slot through SignupGenius, we are counting on you to attend and help us achieve our planting goals! We can’t do it without you, so please do let us know if you are no longer able to volunteer by deleting your sign up or contacting Lea Justice at ljustice@pecva.org ***

Thank you for your contribution to Plantings for the Piedmont!
