Join the fun on Saturday, April 19 from 9:00 am to Noon to help clean-up the Thornton River and clear the way for 1,000 ducks to race down it the following Saturday for SperryFest. To prepare for this community festival and "The Great Rubber Duck Race Down the Mighty Thornton River," the community pulls on their waders and grabs trash bags to pick up trash and clear debris to ensure our Mighty Thornton puts in her best face forward for SperryFest the following weekend.
This annual clean-up is particularly important as the Thornton River is a pristine waterway flowing directly out of the Shenandoah National Park and into the Rappahannock River. The harsh ice and snow storms has created some large obstacles this year that will need an energetic group of volunteers.
Meet at the River Terrace at Before & After at 9:00 am on Saturday, April 19 with shoes you don’t mind getting wet (yes, we get to play in the river as adults)! This clean-up is part of the Sperryville Trail Committee’s efforts to restore the Thornton River to its natural state.
