Fauquier FISH Beautification Project

In February, Fauquier FISH moved all of our programs into a new space located at 680 A Industrial Road Warrenton, VA.  The space is AMAZING but it still looks like a warehouse.  In April, during Let's Volunteer Month, we are looking for volunteers outside of our usual food focused activities.  We need help with spring clean up and beautifying our new area!  We have several tasks, listed below, that will help our new space feel more like our new home.  Please let us know which tasks you are willing to help us with when registering.

1. General outdoor clean up.  This will be helping to pick up construction type trash (small scrap wood pieces, nails, broken bricks/concrete blocks, etc.) removing leaves, and pulling weeds.  Some work gloves will be provided and it's recommended to bring your favorite pair.  This task is expected to take a maximum of 2 hours and can be competed by an adult chaperone and younger children.
2. Planting an herb garden.  In our previous location, we were spoiled by the Master Gardeners' veggie and herb garden right outside of our doors.  We will be purchasing planters, soil, and herbs to be planted in raised pots.  Volunteers should be able to lift the soil to fill the planters.  A hand shovel and gardening gloves brought from home will be very helpful!  This task is expected to take a maximum of 2 hours with 2 people.
3. Painting Metal Carts.  We have 3 commercial metal carts that need to be lightly sanded and spray painted to bring them back to life.  This task will likely take up to 6 people 2 hours to complete.  Come in clothes that you are able to use spray paint.  Rubber gloves and general medical masks will be available upon request.
4. Painting Doors.  We'd love to welcome our clients and volunteers with a bring door.  Help us paint 3 doors to brighten up our space!  This is expected to take 2 hours with 1-2 people.  Come dressed to paint!
5. Prime a mural wall.  We have a wooden wall that is screaming to have a burst of color added to it however it needs to be prepped and primed first.  We are splitting this job into multiple tasks as the paint will need to dry.  The wall needs to be prepped and primed before it can be painted.  This task will take 2 hours with 2-3 high school and older volunteers helping.  Come dressed to paint!
6. Paint a geometric wall.  After lunch, we are looking for 3-4 creative folks to help us tape off and paint a geometric mural for our volunteers to enjoy.  This task will take 2-3 hours and should be completed by high school and older volunteers.  Come dressed to paint!
7. Stain our wooden furniture.  We were able to rescue a few pieces of furniture left behind from the previous tenants however they need some love!  We also have some incredibly sturdy benches that were made for us a few years ago that could use some love as well.  These pieces of furniture will need to be sanded down a bit and then stained with a deck stain to help give them new life.  Come prepared to get messy.  We will have gloves and medical masks upon request. This is a task for 2-4 older volunteers.   We will have an AM shift and a PM shift so that a second coat can be applied.  Please specify when you can attend.  
8. Hang banners in the warehouse.  We will be creating banners to bring a bit of love and beauty into our warehouse.  Help us hang the banners (and maybe a few other things) to brighten up the space.  This will require the use of a rolling ladder - you should not be scared of heights.  Proper footwear is required. This project should take 1-2 hours and can be completed by a single adult but a second person with a good eye could be helpful!
