Complete Tree Planting at The Meadows Farm

Calendar Happens On May 12, 2021
Time 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.
Expired

Description

Join Piedmont Environmental Council, John Marshall Soil and Water District and Friends of the Rappahannock to complete the Earth Day tree planting started on April 22! We still have 50+ trees to plant  to complete this riparian buffer.

Volunteers will be needed from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. for planting native tree seedlings (scalping, digging holes, planting, and pounding stakes). All COVID guidelines shall be adhered to - volunteers must bring their own mask and observe social distancing.

Planting native trees help our environment and our community in numerous ways, including:
Sequester carbon to improve air quality; Regulate temperatures in our urban environments;Increase property values in our neighborhoods; Catch and filter polluted stormwater before it enters our local streams; Stabilize soils and stream banks preventing erosion; Provide valuable forage and habitat for fish and wildlife.

PEC & FOR will provide all of the necessary tools for planting as well as snacks and extra water.
Volunteers should bring: Mask (Required), Work gloves, Hat, Sunscreen, Water bottle

All volunteers will be required to sign a volunteer waiver to participate. Please email your completed waiver to Robin Cross at rcross@pecva.org prior to Wednesday, May 12 or give to Claire at the site. There will be additional copies available to sign upon arrival. If you have already filled out a 2021 waiver, you do not need to provide another one.

As a bonus, there is a nice pond to sit by if you choose to bring a snack to enjoy after we finish.
