The Fig Leaf is looking for volunteers to help process clothing donations Fridays - 9am to 2 pm.  Volunteers can sign up for any time slot that works for them during those hours. Tasks include sorting clothing by season, checking items for quality (discarding anything with holes or heavy wear), and setting aside any donated household items or books so staff can arrange for re-donation elsewhere. No experience needed—just extra hands and willing hearts!

Volunteers in this area will be available to assist with setting up equipment, tables, chairs etc.

Checking in Piedmont Smiles Volunteer volunteers as they arrive

Responsibilities/Activities: .  This position helps create a welcoming and organized experience for patients waiting outside for pre-registration and registration for the event.  You will help ensure guests are greeted warmly, informed about the process, and guided efficiently and respectfully ensuring spacing, order and safety.  The Outside line greeter also may also assist with special accomodations as needed and communicate with inside volunteers or staff to relay updates or needs.  Requires the ability to stand for entire shift and work in inclement weather.

Responsibilities/Activities: The Registration Waiting Area Escort greets arriving patients warmly and plays a critical role in maintaining fairness, order and smooth flow during patient intake.  This volunteer receives patients from check in line, seats them according to the order of their initial lineup, and ensures they are called to registration in that same order.  The role also includes directing each patient to the next available registration station when it is their turn, maintaining continuous flow and minimizing wait times while preserving fairness.  You will also provide friendly assistance, reassurance, and basic information to patients.

This volunteer receives patients from the Panorex area, seats them in the order they arrive, and directs each patient to the Triage Escort who will arrive to take them to the next available triage station.  You will provide friendly assistance, reassurance and simple explanations of the next step, providing necessary communication with the Triage Escort while maintaining a calm, positive environment while ensuring efficiency and fairness.

Responsibilities/Activities: The Triage Area Escort is responsible for guiding patients from the triage waiting area to the next available dental triage station.  This volunteer works closely with the Triage Waiting Area Greeter and the Triage Dental team to ensure patients are escorted in the correct order and that the process remains smooth, fair and welcoming.  You will walk patients from the waiting area to the next triage station and communicate clearly with triage staff assuring readiness while maintaining a calm, efficient flow that helps minimize crowding or confusion.  After patients have completed their triage, you will guide and seat them to the proper treatment staging area, ensuring safe and comfortable transitions to theTreatment Area Escort volunteer and assisting individuals with special needs or accomodations.

Responsibilities/Activities: The Health Screening Waiting Area Escort ensures an organized and welcoming transition for patients who have completed registration and are waiting to review their general health information with medical staff.  This volunteer receives patients from the registration area, seats them in order of their arrival while monitoring the waiting area to maintian orderly seating and patient flow, and directs each patient to the next available health screening station when called.  Similar to all areas of patient flow, you will maintain a calm, friendly atmosphere and help minimize confusion or crowding.

We're looking for a compassionate and skilled American Sign Language (ASL) interpreter to help us ensure ever guest, including those who are deaf and hard of hearing, can fully participate and receive the care they need.  Your support will make ar real difference in helping us provide accessable care to all. Responsibilities/Activities: After receiving patients from the Triage Area Escort, the Treatment Area Escort ensures patients move efficiently and comfortably from the treatment staging area to their assigned dental treatment stations.  They will maintain clear communication with dental staff to confirm when chairs are ready and offer friendly guidance and reassurance during the transiton.  This volunteer works closely with the Triage Dental Team, triage Area Escort Volunteer to escort patients in the proper order and provide a reassuring presence as they prepare to receive care.

We’re not just building picnic tables—we’re building a place where our community can gather, connect, learn, and grow together. These new picnic tables will provide comfortable seating and shade for volunteers, program participants, and visitors enjoying the vegetable gardens, flower gardens, and blueberry demonstration patch.

This new gathering space will be the perfect place to take a break, share gardening stories, enjoy the view, and celebrate the many “berry” wonderful things happening at the Carver Center!

What’s on the build list?

The Cold War Museum is looking for a volunteer to help us get Cold War history out to the public through social media, youtube videos, and other forms of digital outreach. We've done such efforts in the past but we're looking for a dedicated volunteer to help us up our game and produce engaging and factual content on a weekly basis from the Museum's exhibits, collection and staff. 

You would work with the curator and collections team to record, produce, and publish history content to help further the museum's mission to preserve Cold War history, honor Cold War veterans, and educate the public on the Cold War and its legacy. Social media fluency and experience with content production is needed, and video and audio editing skills are especially preferred. The majority of the work for this position can be done remotely, but some in-person work at the Cold War Museum would be occasionally required.

Join our team of docents and help bring Cold War history to the public. Learn the museum's exhibits and Cold War stories, and share these stories with tour groups and visitors to the museum. Make connections between the Cold War and the present day, and help people understand the importance and legacy of the Cold War. An excellent way to practice public speaking!

Many of our docents are Cold War veterans, hence our tagline The Real People Explaining the Real Things.

Docents have flexibility to highlight aspects of Cold War history of particular interest to them, and to tailor the tour to the interests of the tour group. Training is conducted by the curator and the senior members of the docent team. We welcome you to visit the museum and meet the docents before volunteering! Docents are expected to volunteer in-person at least one day per weekend and preferably both days. (Our public hours are Saturdays 11-4 and Sundays 1-4, or eight hours per week) Docents can also lead private tours during the week. 

The Museum's collections team is responsible for creating new exhibits, maintaining and processing our collection of Cold War artifacts, conservation, and artifact research. With the variety of tasks, you can experience a wide swath of museum work and focus on projects that align with your historical or career interests. Past collections volunteers have built exhibits, conducted inventories, and done original research for publication using the museum's collection.

By joining the team you can work directly with the collection in a small museum environment. Collections work requires diligence, attention to detail, and a willingness to learn. Previous museum experience or a history-related degree preferred but not required. We welcome you to visit the museum and meet the curator before volunteering! Docents are expected to volunteer in-person at least one day per weekend and preferably both days. (Our hours are Saturdays 11-4 and Sundays 1-4, or eight hours per week total)

Do you have some free time?  Do you like spending time with great people? The Free Clinic of Culpeper is looking for volunteers to help our patients with registration, answering phones, and assisting at our front desk.

Currently, we are in need of morning volunteers on Monday or Tuesday from 9:00 until 11:00 or 12:00, or afternoon volunteers on Monday, Tuesday, or Wednesday from 1:00 until 3:00, and the 1st and 3rd Thursday from 3:00 until 6:00.

Some Spanish is necessary.

Help turn rescued local food into healthy meals for our community. Feeding 500 is a hands-on volunteer event at the Carver Food Enterprise Center where volunteers work alongside staff and job training participants to transform surplus or hard-to-use produce into nutritious, ready-to-eat meals for local food pantry partners. In a typical event, volunteers spend about three hours washing, chopping, cooking, packaging, and labeling meals that would otherwise go to waste. Since launching, the program has rescued thousands of pounds of food and created thousands of servings for community members while reducing food waste and increasing access to healthy food. No professional cooking experience needed, just a willingness to help, learn, and make a difference. Come be part of turning local abundance into community impact.

Join us in getting your hands dirty for a good cause! The Piedmont Environmental Council’s Community Farm at Roundabout Meadows needs volunteers to help grow and harvest fresh produce for Clarke and Loudoun food pantries in our 2026 season. While you help your community you’ll learn more about the local food system and maybe even pick up a few tips on growing your own fruits and veggies.

Volunteer opportunities for 2026 continue throughout the growing season: mid-March through October. We have multiple opportunities per week during the peak season (June-September) and offer one-two Saturdays per month. Due to the food pantry’s availability to pick up produce, the majority of time slots are during the week. Volunteer opportunities are announced via email to all volunteers who have signed up.

Volunteering is great for team-building! We are happy to coordinate School Field Trips, Corporate, and Group (e.g. scouts, clubs, faith-based organizations) volunteer days for groups of fifteen or more.

Our staff team at Generations Central works faithfully every day to support our senior adults living with dementia and help them thrive! We have a vision to build a respite room for them to utilize during their day in order to take a breath, decompress, and recharge so that they can provide the best care possible to our participants. 

This volunteer opportunity will involve a variety of jobs to help us create a beautiful respite room. Jobs may include:

Remington Community Garden is looking for folks interested in joining a watering, weeding, harvesting support team. We have over 160 vegetable plants in our community plots that need consistent watering this summer. These plants are used to provide fresh vegetables for our Little Free Veggie Wagon and given away to those with food insecurity in the Remington Community.

As the summer progresses, we will also be harvesting produce 2-3 times a week. Days and times vary, depending on the weather and the type of produce.

Looking for a 4 hour a week commitment, mostly remote but some in person planning sessions. 

Do you have 4 hours a week to share? The Fauquier Historical Society is seeking friendly, dependable volunteers to assist with Greeting Guests, Gift Shop and Event Promotions at the Old Jail Museum in Warrenton.

We’re open Wednesday through Monday and need help greeting visitors, processing admissions, and keeping an eye on gift shop activity. Volunteers must be 18 or older, and training and a background check are required.

Patient and Family Support Volunteers provide support to hospice patients and their family members. Volunteers provide companionship, caring presence, vigil sitting and assistance in the patient's home, nursing homes, assisted living facilities, and in the Blue Ridge Care In-Patient Care Center. Volunteers also provide respite relief for caregivers allowing them much needed time to rest, take a break, or run errands. Join the Madison Emergency Services Association (MESA) to help us manage the "heart" of our food pantry! Our sorting volunteers are critical to ensuring that the food we receive—from local farmers, grocery partners, and community donations—gets to our neighbors quickly and safely.

What you’ll be doing:

Inspecting Donations: Checking expiration dates and ensuring all packaging is intact and shelf-ready.

Organizing Shelves: Sorting non-perishable goods by category (canned proteins, veggies, grains, etc.) for our "free-choice" pantry layout.

Processing Fresh Food: Helping bag produce or eggs sourced from local Madison County farms.

PATH Resource Center's role in the community is to help Non-Profit businesses build capacity and success toward their  mission.  In this effort, we are looking for community members who possess skills in the area of marketing to provide coaching services on demand, for our non-profit businesses. 

This role is ideal for an experienced fund raisers wishing to provide support to non profit organizations by helping to strengthen their fundraising strategies and overall development efforts.  You would advise staff and leadership on donor engagement, campaign planning and sustainable revenue growth. You may also assist with refining messaging, improving donor communications and offeirng guidance on best practis in fudrasing and stewardship. The goal being to help build stronger donor relationships and increase organizational capacithy to help them achieve their mission.

Interested volunteers will respond to this need and will receive a call for more details and to set up an in person interview with members of the PATH Resource Center.  Coaching services are requested on an individual basis and vetted before enlisting the help of our volunteers skilled in this area.

**Pantry Volunteers:** Help clients during our free-choice pantry hours on Saturdays from 9:30 AM to Noon. Before we open, volunteers will help set up by bringing out bakery items, fruits, and vegetables. This position only requires you to commit to attending the Pet Pantry distribution the 3rd Saturday of every month, from 7:30 am - 11:30 am. 

Food insecurity not only impacts people it also effects their pets. This program helps keep pets in loving homes and out of the shelter. We are looking for a volunteer tutor to teach a beginner level Spanish class for adults this spring at the Culpeper Literacy Council. This is a great opportunity to support language learning in our community and help adults build confidence and communication skills.

The class will meet once a week for 8 weeks and is designed for English speaking adults with little to no prior Spanish experience. Lessons can be conversational and practical, focused on everyday vocabulary, basic grammar, and real life communication.

You don’t have to be a professional teacher, just comfortable speaking Spanish and willing to guide a small group in a supportive and engaging environment.

This is also a great opportunity to be featured in our social media and showcase the impact of our volunteers in the community.

Responsibilities:

·Attend monthly virtual committee meetings.

·Collaborate with committee members to plan the event schedule (most elements recur annually, with a focus on confirming timing and flow).

Overview & Brief History of the "5 Over 65" Celebration: Aging Together has been honoring the positive impact of older adults for 14 years with the annual 5 Over 65 Celebration (formerly 5 Over 50). The regional honor was created to highlight the significant contributions of older adults in each of our 5 counties, Culpeper, Fauquier, Madison, Orange & Rappahannock. The 5 honorees will be announced in May. 

This year's celebration is planned with our annual meeting on August 27, 2026, at Fauquier Springs Country Club.

Mission and Purpose: To share information about SCSM and our service with the community through events outside of the center

Responsibilities and Duties: Engage with the community at events, Share Information about SCSM and encourage them to contact us when they are in need

Qualifications: Excellent Verbal Communication Skills, Willingness to engage with strangers, Ability to stand for 30 minutes and sometime longer

Time Commitment: Must attend 1.5-hour training and commit to at least 2 events a year.

Responsibilities and Duties: to provide individual, couples, or family counseling to those who have experienced a loss

Qualifications: Certified Counselors (professional, Lay or Pastoral) Time Commitment: 2 or more hours a week, based on your schedule

Training and Support: We require that all new counselors attend one of our grief groups to get a sense of Spiritual Care Support Ministries and our mission. We have yearly counselor updates with our Executive Director and one of our senior counselors is here to provide you with individual support

During this shift, you'll help open the store at 9:00 AM by unlocking the doors, turning on lights, and making sure the space is tidy and ready for guests. Throughout your time, you’ll assist with sorting and processing donations, checking items for cleanliness and quality before placing them out for shoppers. As guests arrive, our volunteers greet them warmly, help them find what they need, and offer assistance with bags if needed. During slower moments, volunteers fold, organize, and restock as needed. Before closing, you will straighten up displays, return items to their proper places, and take out any trash or clothing that still needs to be sorted. The Remington Community Garden is seeking an individual with interest in recruiting, orienting and organizing volunteers for Garden events and upkeep. A Comfort Blanket is a handmade blanket we like to give to children who have a need emotionally and physically. The kids LOVE these and call them "covers"! We also like to give special needs children these blankets as well as children going through some tough emotional situations. 

The blankets are handmade and prayed over. When we give them to a child, we are giving them something covered in prayers, we hope and pray if finds them comfort in the situation they may be in. It is also something that they can call their own.

Summer Announcement: Donated firewood is cut, split, stacked, and delivered to struggling Fauquier County residents every Saturday morning at the Warrenton Baptist Church property, The Gathering Place, behind Brumfield Elementary on Alwington Boulevard in Warrenton, VA.  No special skills are needed.  If you have an axe or maul, please bring them.  Gloves are strongly encouraged.  Social distancing is available as we work outside in a large area.  Pickup trucks with willing drivers are especially needed.  We hope to see you any Saturday morning between 8:00 and 10:00 am!

Memory Bears are made for grieving family members from clothing of their loved one. For a grieving person to be able to hug the bear made by a shirt/pajamas of their loved one is deeply healing.  Some bears might wear a special pin, earring or other item which was meaningful to the loved one who has passed.   These bears are made to honor the memory of the loved one and provide a deep comfort to the grieving family members. We know how devastating the loss of a loved one is, the bears help in the grieving process. Capital Caring Health provides end of life care to all ages, from pediatrics to geriatrics. We are a non profit who never turns anyone away based on ability to pay.

Sharing food is a powerful act of community. Family Shelter Services depends on volunteers and community support to donate and prepare meals for our families. Several ways to help with food:

- Community can prepare a potluck style meal for breakfast, lunch or dinner and drop off/serve. (Youth groups, Adult Ministries, Clubs, Families, Sororities, School groups, Local businesses)

- Providing a "sack" meal like breakfast or lunch and drop off.

- Cook a meal onsite.

- Sponsor a shelter dinner with a local restaurant, like pizza!

As part of this mission, we are seeking community members with strong financial expertise to serve as volunteer Finance Coaches for our nonprofit partners.

The Finance Coach will work one-on-one with nonprofit staff or leadership to review budgeting processes with a focus on scenario planning and full cost budgeting. These services will help organizations plan more strategically, understand the true cost of their operations, and prepare for financial sustainability.

The PATH Resource Center will provide meeting space and support for all coaching engagements.

The PATH Resource Center is committed to supporting the growth and sustainability of local nonprofit organizations by helping them strengthen their internal operations. We are currently seeking volunteers with experience in human resources to serve as HR Coaches for our nonprofit partners.

Interested volunteers will receive a call with more information and to schedule an in-person interview with PATH Resource Center staff. Coaching requests are reviewed individually and matched with volunteers who have relevant expertise.

The HR Coach will support nonprofits by offering guidance on employee policies and performance evaluation processes. These coaching sessions are designed to help organizations build clear, consistent, and effective HR practices that support their teams and missions.

The PATH Resource Center will provide office or meeting space for all coaching interactions.

Our Free Clinic gets a once-a-month Friday delivery from the Blue Ridge Area Food Bank (usually the third Friday) that volunteers will unload and restock the shelves in our patient food pantry. It usually takes less than 2 hours, depending upon the number of volunteers we have. You can work inside opening boxes of food and restocking the shelves, or if you don't mind a bit of heavier lifting, you can move boxes of food from the pallet onto a cart.  

We are a fun bunch at the clinic and would love a few more volunteers!

"Elementary Explorers" is the Museum of Culpeper History's monthly program for 5-9 year-olds. Held every month on the last Thursday from 10:30-11:30. Each month focuses on a different topic, and learners participate in an activity and complete a craft related to the theme for the month. The Elementary Explorers Aide would arrive before the program to help set up tables and chairs, be an extra set of hands during the program, and then help clean up after it's over.

Each month focuses on a different topic and learners participate in an activity and complete a craft related to the theme for the month. The Little Learners Aide would arrive before the program to help set up tables and chairs, be an extra set of hands during the program, and then help clean up after it's over.

As a friendly visitor, you'll be a source of companionship and support for your new friend. Share meals, watch movies, play games, or simply chat – find activities you both enjoy!

Here are some tips for your volunteer experience:

It's okay to be nervous! Let your friend know if you're feeling apprehensive. It can help you both relax.

Focus on your friend. Remember, the goal is to build a friendship.

Just be yourself! There's no script for being a good friend. Just show genuine interest and listen.

Encourage conversation. Let your friend talk about their life, even if it's difficult.

Most importantly, have fun! Enjoy getting to know your new friend.

Here's what you can expect

After you respond to this opportunity,our volunteer coordinator will be in touch to provide more details and a brief phone interview.

After that, if it is decided this is a good match for you, we will conduct a background check.

Once the background check is completed and cleared, position orientation and training will be provided

We encourage monthly in-person visits with additional check-ins in between.

You'll have regular communication with the volunteer coordinator.  

Goals of Position:

As a Hero Driver, you will ensure that older Veterans maintain access to essential services, social connection, and quality of life by providing transportation to medical appointments, grocery stores, social outings, and other destinations. Your contribution will reduce isolation, improve access to healthcare, and help aging Veterans live more independently.

Hero Drivers have helped hundreds of aging Veterans regain access to vital care, reconnect with friends and fellow Veterans, and maintain their independence. Your commitment ensures that no Veteran is left behind simply because they cannot drive.

Training and ongoing support provided. 

Locations Served by Hero Drivers: Primary service areas: Fauquier, Culpeper, Rappahannock, Madison, and Orange counties. Occasional trips to VA hospitals in West Virginia or other locations

Friendly Callers play a vital role in combating isolation and supporting the mental wellness of veterans through compassionate outreach. By offering a listening ear, they provide emotional support, companionship, and a powerful reminder that someone cares.

Friendly Callers have made meaningful connections that brighten lives and ease loneliness. By being a consistent, caring presence, they help veterans feel seen, valued, and supported one conversation at a time.

Each call is unique, some may last just a couple of minutes, while others turn into rich, heartfelt conversations about anything and everything. No matter the length, every call matters and contributes to building a stronger, more connected community.

PATH Resource Center's role in the community is to help Non-Profit businesses build capacity and success toward their  mission.  In this effort, we are looking for community members who possess skills in the area of marketing to provide coaching services on demand, for our non-profit businesses. 

This role is ideal for an experienced marketing professional who is passionate about using their skills to make a social impact and enjoys mentoring others. The Marketing Coach will provide guidance in the areas of overall marketing strategy, branding, and messaging, best practices for digital marketing, email campaigns, and social media, offer feedback on marketing materials and communications, and serve as a thought partner for key initiatives and campaigns.

Interested volunteers will respond to this need and will receive a call for more details and to set up an in person interview with members of the PATH Resource Center.  Coaching services are requested on an individual basis and vetted before enlisting the help of our volunteers skilled in this area. 

PATH Resource Center will provide meeting/office space for our volunteers to engage with non-profits.

In our effort to match community talent with the needs of our non-profit community, PATH is always looking for skilled volunteers who wish to share their time. 

Our volunteer grant writer will assist the PATH Resource Center in their efforts to strengthen non-profit organizations through helping them with the formalization of their grant writing process and reviewing grant applications.
