Opportunities From: PATH Volunteer Hub

The Cold War Museum is looking for a volunteer to help us get Cold War history out to the public through social media, youtube videos, and other forms of digital outreach. We've done such efforts in the past but we're looking for a dedicated volunteer to help us up our game and produce engaging and factual content on a weekly basis from the Museum's exhibits, collection and staff. 

You would work with the curator and collections team to record, produce, and publish history content to help further the museum's mission to preserve Cold War history, honor Cold War veterans, and educate the public on the Cold War and its legacy. Social media fluency and experience with content production is needed, and video and audio editing skills are especially preferred. The majority of the work for this position can be done remotely, but some in-person work at the Cold War Museum would be occasionally required.

Join our team of docents and help bring Cold War history to the public. Learn the museum's exhibits and Cold War stories, and share these stories with tour groups and visitors to the museum. Make connections between the Cold War and the present day, and help people understand the importance and legacy of the Cold War. An excellent way to practice public speaking!

Many of our docents are Cold War veterans, hence our tagline The Real People Explaining the Real Things.

Docents have flexibility to highlight aspects of Cold War history of particular interest to them, and to tailor the tour to the interests of the tour group. Training is conducted by the curator and the senior members of the docent team. We welcome you to visit the museum and meet the docents before volunteering! Docents are expected to volunteer in-person at least one day per weekend and preferably both days. (Our public hours are Saturdays 11-4 and Sundays 1-4, or eight hours per week) Docents can also lead private tours during the week. 

The Museum's collections team is responsible for creating new exhibits, maintaining and processing our collection of Cold War artifacts, conservation, and artifact research. With the variety of tasks, you can experience a wide swath of museum work and focus on projects that align with your historical or career interests. Past collections volunteers have built exhibits, conducted inventories, and done original research for publication using the museum's collection.

By joining the team you can work directly with the collection in a small museum environment. Collections work requires diligence, attention to detail, and a willingness to learn. Previous museum experience or a history-related degree preferred but not required. We welcome you to visit the museum and meet the curator before volunteering! Docents are expected to volunteer in-person at least one day per weekend and preferably both days.
