Opportunities From: PATH Volunteer Hub

Volunteer: Photographer

Take photos for the Piedmont Environmental Council to support our mission of protecting the lands and waters of the Virginia Piedmont while creating stronger, more sustainable communities!

We’re looking for photographers to support our communications team by attending and photographing outreach events, public meetings, and conservation projects.

Prior experience required, intermediate to advanced skill level and experience photographing events preferred. If you’re comfortable recording video as well, that’s a bonus! This volunteer will need to use their own photo equipment. DSLR or mirrorless cameras are preferred, but smart phone cameras can work in a pinch as well.

Location: Shoots would fall within PEC’s 9-county region (Albemarle, Clarke, Culpeper, Fauquier, Greene, Loudoun, Madison, Orange, and Rappahannock). Opportunities will be offered based on the volunteer's preference and availability to travel.  Volunteers will need their own reliable transportation, but PEC will provide mileage reimbursements for travel.

Time commitment: dependent on your availability.

Volunteer: Bike C'ville/Albemarle Coordinator

The Piedmont Environmental Council is looking for someone to help make it easier and more fun to bike in Charlottesville. We've partnered with many local groups to launch BikeCville: a website and a program for casual cyclists who would like to meet other people, learn more about the community and find resources and tips. We need help with social media, outreach, events and more. Having a bike is helpful but not required.

Volunteer: Become a Community Farmer! Help Grow Fruits and Veggies for Your Community in 2025

Join us in getting your hands dirty for a good cause! The Piedmont Environmental Council’s Community Farm at Roundabout Meadows needs volunteers to help grow and harvest fresh produce for Clarke and Loudoun food pantries in our 2025 season. While you help your community you’ll learn more about the local food system and maybe even pick up a few tips on growing your own fruits and veggies.

Volunteer opportunities for 2025 will begin in late March/early April and continue throughout the growing season. We have multiple opportunities per week during the peak season (June-September) and offer one Saturday per month. Due to the food pantry’s availability to pick up produce, the majority of time slots are during the week. Volunteer opportunities are announced via email to all volunteers who have signed up.

Volunteering is great for team-building! We are happy to coordinate School Field Trips, Corporate, and Group (e.g. scouts,clubs,faith-based organizations) volunteer days for groups of fifteen or more.

All ages are welcome to volunteer, minors under the age of 16 must be accompanied by an adult.

Learn more at pecva.org/farm

Ongoing Tasks (April-October):

Seed starting, planting, harvesting, and other fun farm tasks!

On-site training will be provided. Previous experience is welcome, but not required! Be prepared to work outside in variable weather conditions. Bring gardening gloves, snacks, water, sun protection, bug spray, and weather appropriate clothing. Long pants and closed-toe shoes are encouraged. Volunteer waiver required, a link to the digital waiver will be shared in the volunteer welcome letter you will receive upon registration.
