Description

The Piedmont Environmental Council (PEC) is seeking motivated volunteers to assist with pollinator and flower surveys at the Larson Native Plant Garden at PEC headquarters in Warrenton, VA. The aim of these surveys is to document how pollinators (especially, native bees) use urban gardens that have been planted with a variety of native flowers, shrubs, and trees. These surveys will be the first of a continuing, annual effort to track local pollinator populations over time.

Training is mandatory and will cover important information such as survey protocols, bee and plant identification, pollinator life history, how to use an iPad for data collection, and survey assignments.

Benefits of becoming a citizen scientist:

  • opportunity to apply your naturalist skills to meaningful research.
  • training in plant and pollinator survey protocols.
  • ability to network and communicate with others of similar interests.
  • learn about pollinator-friendly landscape practices.

This event is the required training for those who wish to participate in this project. Before signing up for this mandatory training, please click here to learn more about this project and what it entails.
