Who We Are

Rapp at Home was formed in 2015 based on the Village model of neighbors helping neighbors. We are one of the few non-fee, rural-based Villages. Instead of relying on dues, we are funded through donations and grants.

After 10 years in operation, we have grown from 50 Friends (members) to 680 Friends, which is 30% of the senior population of Rappahannock County.

These friends are served by 80 active volunteers. Rapp at Home volunteers provide critical help such as transportation for medical appointments and picking up groceries and prescriptions. I solation and loneliness are reduced by making friendly visits or phone calls as well as providing in-home services.  We increase health and safety by providing and installing personal medical alert devices and smoke detectors. We give referrals to paid services like Certified Nursing Assistants, Personal Care Aids and Home Helpers, and maintain a list of vendors that have been reviewed and vetted by Rappahannock neighbors and friends.

Additionally, we provide 12 social and educational activities monthly. We feel that every interaction is an opportunity to form connections, deepen bonds, and establish long-term friendships.

We are stronger together. Rapp at Home collaborates with other nonprofits and government agencies, including the Benevolent Fund, Food Pantry, Encompass, Department of Social Services, Senior Center, Rappahannock-Rapidan Regional Commission, and the Rappahannock Public School system. Together we work to create a County where older adults of all backgrounds and economic means can comfortably age in place with the support of a caring community.
