Join staff from The Piedmont Environmental Council, Friends of the Rappahannock, and partners as we plant trees, shrubs, and live stake materials along a headwater stream near the Hughes River! The property is near Nethers, VA.
We will be focused on installing live plant material that will help to stabilize banks, prevent erosion, and improve habitat for fish and wildlife. We have all the materials needed including tools, gloves, waders/rubber boots, water, and snacks.
No experience necessary! Several conservation staff will be on the site to provide instruction on planting methods, safety talk, and to answer questions about the project and the larger restoration efforts taking place across the region.
This project requires volunteers to work in and around a stream which has lots of gravel, cobble, boulders, and mud. The stream may have standing pools and flowing water.
The planting will likely run from 12:30pm - 3:30pm.
All participants must complete and sign a waiver. **Any participate under 18 must have a waiver signed by a parent or guardian.
