Description

On Thursday, April 22, at RAWL's Animal Shelter, we are inviting volunteers to help us refresh the garden areas in front of the main building.  There are three main areas - the two small gardens in front of the office and a larger memorial garden, established in memory of Emily Hilscher, a beautiful young woman who died in Virginia Tech's 2007 tragedy.

The gardens were completely redone last year, including the addition of many native plants and drought-resistant shrubs; however, the deer have destroyed many plants, requiring more work in establishing the gardens again.  Tasks include:  weeding, pruning, planting, mulching, fertilizing, and designing areas which will deter the deer and other wild creatures.  You are invited to join us -- it's fulfilling work, with other folks who enjoy being outdoors, assisting a worthy nonprofit, while basking in the joyful sounds of welcoming barks by RAWL's canine residents.
