Join the Piedmont Environmental Council to install a native plant garden at Crockett Park in Midland! We have about 100 perennial plants to get into the ground and need your help!
Volunteers are needed from 10am to noon for installing the garden (digging holes and planting). All COVID guidelines shall be adhered to - volunteers must bring their own mask and observe social distancing.
Planting native plants helps our environment and our community in numerous ways. They usually require less fertilizers, water, and mulch than gardens with non-native plants. Although perennial gardens do require weeding, they do not require replanting each year which improves the biology of the soil and ecosystem of your yard. And finally, native plants provide shelter and food for native wildlife, especially our pollinators, making them both functional and beautiful.
PEC will provide all of the necessary tools for planting as well as snacks and extra water.
Volunteers should bring: Mask (Required), Work gloves, Hat, Sunscreen, Bug spray, Water bottle
All volunteers will be required to sign a volunteer waiver to participate. Please email your completed waiver to Robin Cross at rcross@pecva.org prior to May 22 or give to Julie at the site. There will be additional copies available to sign upon arrival. If you have already filled out a 2021 waiver, you do not need to provide another one
