The Carver Food Enterprise Center (CFEC), Minority and Veteran Farmers of the Piedmont (MVFP), and the Rapidan River Master Gardeners (RRMG) are collaborating on a composting project. All of these organizations are co-located at the Carver Center (the historical George Washington Carver Regional High School). MVFP and RRMG have gardening projects adjacent to the CFEC's commercial kitchen which has constant cooking projects. The CFEC will deliver compostable kitchen scraps to compost systems installed next to MVFP and RRMG gardening projects. MVFP and RRMG will work with the CFEC to manage the composting process and use the resulting compost in their gardens which support local food banks and educational initiatives.
We are looking for volunteers to help us install this composting system. This work will involve assembling two large compost bins, constructing an enclosure for two browns piles, and installing some educational signage. This work will largely be done outdoors and will involve some light physical activity.
