Culpeper Humane Society

The Culpeper Humane Society is an all volunteer, private 501(c)3, foster home-home based  dog and cat rescue with no facility. We are in fact, the only rescue in Culpeper County that provides services to both dogs and cats. We have been in existence since the 1980s. In recent years we have reorganized and significantly grown and expanded our programs and services. We are an active member of the Virginia Federation of Humane Societies. 

CHS is so much more than foster and adopt...Our Vision is to create a no-kill community. You cannot adopt your way to a no-kill community. Creating a no-kill community is not attainable without robust programs designed to reduce the number of unwanted pets going into the Shelter and increasing the number of pets exiting the Shelter. Every community program we provide is designed with this goal in mind.

Through the efforts of our dedicated volunteers and the help of our community, we provide programs and services that support the people and pets in Culpeper County. With the exception of a small budget for strictly necessary administrative costs, every dollar you donate is used to care for the animals and the programs we provide. Every dollar you donate is used to provide services for Culpeper County residents. 

We have received public recognition from the VA Federation of Humane Societies for the work we do. Our President, Patty Werwick, was awarded the Alyshire Award for her significant contribution to reducing the number of dogs and cats entering shelters through the advocacy for, and promotion of, affordable and available spay/neuter services.

We support the most vulnerable pets and people in Culpeper County, reduce pet suffering, lessen the population of unwanted pets and create a healthier community through a variety of spay/neuter programs. We have forged strong partnerships with other animal rescue groups, Hero's Bridge, and work closely with the Virginia Federation of Humane Societies, the Culpeper Animal Shelter and AOC in our community.
